Bristol Celebrates Aviation History

The British and Colonial Aeroplane Company (BCAC) celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. To celebrate Bristol & the south west are celebrating the innovation in aviation that has thrived and driven the economy in the area for a number of years. After stating out in a former tram shed making the Boxkite plane BCAC rename in 1920 to the Bristol Aeroplane Company (BAC). By the start of WWII the factory was the largest in Europe and although BAC no longer exists as a company, corporate evolution and the skill of the local workforce have turned the former BAC into world leading aviation companies such as British Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Airbus.

2010 will see numerous events marking this historic year. As part of the celebrations a replica of the original Bristol Fighter was put on display on College Green in the heart of Bristol along with some classic Bristol Motor Vehicles. Due to the requirement to preserve the aircraft from the elements and provide overnight security Danco provided a temporary hanger for the plane. The marquee had to be designed to allow the planes to roll in and out easily, but also be able to be fully closed and provide security for the plane. Danco left staff with the marquee that were able to remove/re-erect the gable of the marquee allowing the plane to be moved as required.
